Editorial Methodology

How we source and maintain our 2026 financial data

Data Sources

Our tax brackets, rates, and financial thresholds are sourced directly from official government publications and updated for tax year 2026:

  • Federal Income Tax: IRS.gov — Revenue Procedure 2025-XX (2026 inflation-adjusted brackets, standard deduction, FICA wage base)
  • State Tax Rates: State Departments of Revenue, TaxFoundation.org state tax data
  • Social Security: SSA.gov — 2026 COLA, earnings test, full retirement age tables
  • FHA/VA Loans: HUD.gov — 2026 FHA county loan limits, MIP schedules
  • Canadian Tax: Canada.ca (CRA) — 2026 federal/provincial brackets, CPP/EI rates, RRSP/TFSA/FHSA limits
  • Property Tax: State and county assessor offices, ATTOM Data Solutions
  • Labor Laws: U.S. Department of Labor, state labor departments

Calculation Methodology

All 30 calculators use standard financial formulas (amortization, present value, future value, tax bracket marginal rate calculations) vetted against the official IRS and CRA tax computation guidelines. Each formula is tested across multiple income scenarios to verify correctness.

Update Frequency

Tax data is updated annually when the IRS, CRA, and state governments release new brackets. Property tax and loan limit data is updated semi-annually. Financial formulas do not change — only the rate and threshold constants.

Editorial Independence
